DO I NEED MY CHIMNEY SWEPT?
Firstly, Throughout the year all chimneys will experience a build-up of carbons and creosote more commonly referred to as soot. This build-up of soot is unwanted for several reasons. The creosote sticks to the entire chimney system are flammable if allowed to build up chimney fire. The carbon deposits also reduce airflow out of the chimney, creating a less efficient and slower burning fire, as well as putting you at risk of being exposed to harmful CO gasses unable to effectively be extracted up the chimney. And the cycle is self-propelling – the reduced flow causes the fire to burn colder, in turn creating more harmful deposits than a hotter burning stove or fireplace. that is why the chimney sweep is considered good luck.
At least once a year, and more frequently if you are burning coal or moist wood, or if you are not burning your wood cleanly. Ideally, the chimney should be swept before, during, and after the heating season. chimney sweep reduces the risk of a chimney fire and optimizes the performance of your heating appliance. Insurance companies require a sweep once a year.
A sweep takes anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes, typically open fires take longer due to more preparation time in soot management.

Power sweeping uses softer highly flexible nylon strands on the cleaning heads so it’s a much gentler clean compared to the stiff brushes used for manual chimney sweeping. The power sweeping cleaning heads are spun at approx. 400 rpm and the strands automatically take on the dimensions of the flue to repeatedly rub the soot away. Despite the gentler action, it’s highly effective at cleaning because the strands come into contact with the flue so many times. It is very very good.

SO WHY ARE CHIMNEY SWEEP CONSIDERED GOOD LUCK?
The legend goes that in 1066, King William was saved by a chimney sweep, who pushed him away from an oncoming carriage. The King was so happy, he invited the chimney sweep to his daughter’s wedding and that’s why chimney sweeps are considered good luck, especially if a bride sees one on her wedding day.
